Are you kidding me?!?

This is insane, how stupid do they think we are. You have to read this article in the New York Times about how Frito Lay is jumping on the locavore band wagon. It frustrates me so much that terms like organic and local become the next big buzz word for large corporations and they turn into meaning nothing. Organic does not even mean really organic now that big corporations have used their billions to influence government policy so they truly do not have to follow all those silly regulations that government official put into place because those same corporations wanted to push organic farmers out of the market by making it almost impossible to grow or produce anything. People educate yourself if you think that it is less expensive to buy the crap that these huge corporate farms produce then I encourage you to do some research on the farm bill. You are subsidizing these farmers with your tax dollars. Are you not sick of all these food recalls? It is disgusting how much food is poisoned! How many people are sick or have died because in the end these big corporate companies do not care about food safety. The people that sold the peanut butter did so knowing it was tanted. And I sit here and hear nothing of an outrage we just keep going to our big box stores to buy our cheap poisoned food. People it is time to stand up and educate yourself. Fine buy processed food but do some research about the company- what do they stand for- has their food poisoned anyone??? Then go to your local famers market- the one that limits it vendors to a 50 mile radius. Find small farmers within our state, go to our many co-ops and ask about where they get their produce. And please do not believe all you read or hear. Ask questions, visit farms- know where your food is coming from and where it is going. We are the consumers , they need us not the other way around! Why would we want the government to regulate our food system- is there nothing we can do for ourselves anymore. Please re-read or read for the first time this post Chuck wrote last year when 143 million pounds of beef had been recalled. Are we so stuck on having material things that cheap food is okay??? We gave up our material life, not saying we have nothing of material value, but we do spend a good chunk of our money on food, or buying things like piglets to raise for ourselves. I know not everyone has the opportunity to raise their own food but you have no excuse for not being an informed consumer. Lets start a new food movement- the educated consumer, that supports small local farms that raise their produce and livestock with care and knowledge.

I saw that article the other day and I remember thinking the same thing you thought, "Are you kidding me?" I included a swear word in my sentence, but I'll refrain from posting it here, but you know what I mean. :)

What Lays is basically saying is: We get local potatoes and take out all the nutrients and give you greasy, disgusting potato chips...aren't we awesome? Um, no.

Now, not that I don't buy some processed crap, because I do, I think Edy's Slow Churned ice cream is about the best thing in the world, but come on! A potato chip company touting themselves as saviors for buying local. PLEASE!
