Preparing for winter

This year we decided to have a relatively big garden to help us in the future cold months. I have gardened myself but never with the thought of providing for a family. It was definitely a learning experience. I grew up in sand, my parents gardened and I have gleaned some of my knowledge from them but we currently live in clay. Watering the garden was a whole new experience! We have had wonderful veggies and fruit from the small plot- I have canned and frozen some. We had hoped to have a root cellar but with the new move in mind we have decided to wait. Chuck even got into it canning hot peppers! I love opening the cabinet where all the canned items are stored- the beautiful colors and the sense of accomplishment are great.
